Dear Reader,
MY PHILADELPHIA: THE CITY EXPLORER was created by Kadafi El-Kardah in the Fall of 2014. The website was created to highlight some of Philadelphia's hidden treasures. When you hear "Philadelphia" what comes to your mind? Probably Independence National Park, the Constitution Center, or maybe the steps to the Philadelphia Art Museum (also known as the Rocky Steps). Some people might think of City Hall, the Liberty Bell, or even food (cheese steaks, water ice, and pretzels). When I think of "Philadelphia", I think of a city where there are limitless places to explore. A city where history was made, and is still being made today. The first hospital, the first botanical garden, the first paper mill, the first library, the first fire company, the first college, and the first for many other things in America's history. MY PHILADELPHIA is not just the Liberty Bell or the Philadelphia Art Museum. MY PHILADELPHIA is not just Center City. MY PHILADELPHIA is the fabric of the city. MY PHILADELPHIA is the small museums, the large historic homes, the beautiful parks, and the neighborhoods with the small town/ community atmosphere. My hometown, Philadelphia, is a great city to live, learn, and explore. With the amount of places to explore in the city, a person will need to spend weeks here just to see it all. When I was creating this website, I wanted to focus on the "hidden" sites in Philadelphia. I wanted to focus on hidden sites that are never mentioned to tourist or widely talked about. I wanted to focus on the sites that are usually left out or forgotten about when asked the question, what comes to your mind when you hear "Philadelphia"?
I hope visitors to this website can see Philadelphia in a different way. I hope visitors can see the value and greatness of this city. Finally, I hope visitors can see my passion and love for my hometown, Philadelphia.
Sincerely,
Kadafi El-Kardah
